Step 6: Try ‘er out
After correcting our leaks (covered in other posts), our first trip was back to our former stomping grounds - Charleston, SC.
My wife’s 6-year-old daughter was with us on our maiden voyage to the Mt. Pleasant KOA in August, right before school started back. It was a nice campground; the pool was clean and surprisingly empty, and the nature trail around the lake was a wonderful little oasis amidst the crowded town and traffic on hwy 17. Not only that, but the Charleston Fun Park is literally right across the street! I had formerly worked probably a mile and a half down the road from this campground and had never really checked it out. Not bad Mt. P!
There were several things we learned on our first trip:
A waste tank is a must and The Rhino Portable Waste Tank is AWESOME!
Everyone needs a Good Sam membership.
You need a door mat, unless you really love sweeping.
Make sure your utility connections are secure before you head out. I did not do this and ended up having to repair the water inlet, which had come loose from the inside of the camper, flooding the base cabinet.
Mount a couple levels to the cabinet by the door so you can see when you’re level during set up.
