Step 4: Make it prettier
Time to paint! We wanted our home away from home to be a cozy little space that made us feel relaxed. So… we settled on a 60’s grandma-ish theme, partly to pay homage to our grandmothers, and partly because we wanted our vacation home to be fun and funky. After cleaning and sanding the walls of our entire dingy little baby camper, we used a latex paint + primer from Lowe’s, a roller with a 3/8” nap and a various sizes of cutting brushes. The walls are covered in a vinyl textured wall paper, so primer is pretty necessary.
What we did not do, however, was sand the cabinets. Dumb, dumb, dumb. So, we had to redo them. We could have gone with cabinet paint, but we figured for a part time getaway pad, it wasn’t that serious. Just make sure you sand. There is a lot of taping involved in little nooks and at crazy angles; it’s annoying, but do it anyway.
